Program Elements

This program is rooted in four core elements that help identify, address, and overcome developmental or behavioral challenges in young children.

Child screening and evaluation

Trained staff conduct screenings in the home or virtually to assess the child’s development and behavior, helping identify any early delays or issues.

Individualized service planning

Based on the screening, the team works with the family to create a personalized plan of services tailored to the child’s needs, including referrals to early intervention programs or other appropriate services.

Short-term parenting support

The program provides short-term, one-on-one parenting support using the evidence-based Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) to help parents build positive parenting skills and foster a nurturing home environment.

Community training

SFYC staff offer training to community organizations, schools, and shelters to help them identify early signs of emotional and behavioral disturbances in children, supporting early intervention.

Program Timelines

The Services for Families with Young Children (SFYC) Program is based on a three to six month curriculum.

Referral

Parents and guardians can self-refer or be referred by a provider by calling or visiting the website. Referrals that meet the program’s criteria are contacted the same day or by the next business day to schedule the initial screening.

Screening and Initial Contact

Upon referral, the program staff schedule a screening session, which can be done in the family’s home or virtually, to assess the child’s development and behavior.

Service Planning

After the screening, the team works with the family to develop an individualized service plan that includes referrals to appropriate programs or services based on the child’s needs.

Ongoing Support

Over the course of three to six months, the program provides regular check-ins and short-term parenting support and connects families with community resources for ongoing care and development.
