Program Elements
This program focuses on four key elements designed to support families and foster positive outcomes for child development and parenting.
Home visits
Biweekly home visits (either in-person or virtual) are provided to support child development, family dynamics, and access to necessary resources.
Parent education
The Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum offers parents guidance on child development, family wellness, and positive parenting practices.
Case management
Families are assisted by home visitors in accessing community resources such as healthcare, childcare, and mental health services.
Family support
The program works closely with families to ensure a healthy, safe home environment, providing resources to support long-term family stability and success.
Program Timelines
The CalWORKS Home-Visiting Program offers regular support for families, ensuring a consistent approach to child development and family wellness over the two-year program period.
Referral
Parents and guardians can self-refer or be referred by a provider by calling or visiting the website. Referrals that meet the program’s criteria are contacted the same day or by the next business day to schedule the initial screening.
Screening and Initial Contact
Upon referral, the program staff schedule a screening session, which can be done in the family’s home or virtually, to assess the child’s development and behavior.
Service Planning
After the screening, the team works with the family to develop an individualized service plan that includes referrals to appropriate programs or services based on the child’s needs.
Ongoing Support
Over the course of two years, the program provides regular check-ins and short-term parenting support and connects families with community resources for ongoing care and development.
