Layla, a concerned mother of 6-year-old Kaitlynn, came to The Priority Center worried about tantrums, her child not making friends, and refusing to go to school. Kaitlynn’s teacher noted she was very quiet and didn’t interact with classmates. Layla also shared that Kaitlynn’s anemia led to hair loss, affecting her appearance and confidence.
Determined to help, our Mental Health Worker guided Layla through a behavioral health evaluation and introduced her to the Triple P Positive Parenting curriculum. Using tips on self-esteem, bullying, and tantrums, Layla learned how to recognize and praise good behaviors, prevent issues, and give positive affirmations to Kaitlynn. Additionally, The Priority Center connected the family with Dr. Riba’s Health Club and resources from Human Options for long-term services to support Kaitlynn’s mental health, social, and nutritional needs.
After three months of direct support, Layla joyfully reported that Kaitlynn now plays with a neighbor, has fewer tantrums, attends school regularly, and enjoys her classes, especially literacy. Layla feels more confident in advocating for her daughter and is grateful for the resources and support provided by The Priority Center’s Services for Families with Young Children program.
This success story highlights the transformative power of our programs and the importance of our Ready, Set, Learn – Back to School Campaign in supporting children like Kaitlynn.
